WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE
?

Acupuncture is an energetic medicine founded on the concept of Qi (pronounced chee) - which is the life force that flows through all living beings. When we are healthy, Qi flows freely. When Qi becomes blocked, the result is pain, discomfort and disease. There are 14 main channels of energy in the body through which Qi flows, often referred to as ‘meridians’. There are over 360 acupuncture points located along these meridians that connect with deeper tissues and organs in the body. Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny, sterile needles into chosen points to strengthen Qi or disperse stagnant Qi.

Our bodies are miraculous, self
regulating machines with over 500
trillion living cells that protect,
create, supply, absorb, release, store
 and work together toward the
greater good of their ecosystem,
-YOU- and your amazing human body.
Help them by eating healthy,
fresh, unaltered foods, getting a
good supply of rest, exercise,
meditation & receiving
acupuncture and bodywork.

neglect of the self and ignorance of the body's natural healing powers.

WHY CHOOSE ACUPUNCTURE
AND ORIENTAL MEDICINE ?

* Oriental medical practitioners aim to prevent the onset of disease by
balancing & enhancing the body’s own, natural, healing energies.
* Acupuncture unblocks & strengthens the body's energetic pathways, which speeds healing & optimizes delivery of vital nutrients, while reducing toxins & cellular waste.
* Acupuncture balances neural conductivity throughout the body, while invoking a peaceful state and a deep sense of well-being.

HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE FEEL?

Many people don’t feel the needles upon insertion, others feel a slight prick. After insertion, people may feel some tingling, numbness, heaviness or warmth. Some feel movement of energy through other parts of their body. Most people find acupuncture to be very relaxing.

The needles are very tiny, depending on the width, 14- 22 of them could fit into the hole of a hypodermic needle.

After an acupuncture treatment you may notice sensations in your body for up to 5 days. There may be warmth, numbness, twitching, distension or aching in some parts of the body, this is a normal reaction to the activation of Qi moving through areas that may have been constricted prior to your treatment. This usually occurs in areas that have sustained past trauma or are a part of a chronic condition. Many times these sensations speed the healing process and lessen the number of treatments needed to resolve your condition.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ?

The number of treatments typically corresponds to the severity and how long you have had the condition. Acupuncture is a therapy, and as in any therapy, it may require several treatments to bring the body into proper balance.

Recent or acute conditions may be resolved in 1 to 2 treatments depending on the severity.

Chronic conditions typically require more treatments. Most people notice significant improvement of symptoms in 3-4 treatments and many find complete relief in 6 to 10 treatments. Although complex cases with multiple symptoms may take 20 or more treatments to completely alleviate the underlying root cause. Patients respond best when treated on a weekly basis and Burke Acupuncture Clinic offers money saving packages for those who wish to receive a series of treatments.

After a health concern has resolved, maintenance treatments are usually recommended 1-2 times per month. This allows the body to stay in balance, aide in stress reduction and maintain overall good health.

Seasonal treatments are also beneficial. With each new season comes elemental influences that may negatively impact the body. Practitioners of Chinese medicine are aware of these influences and can strengthen the body's protective mechanisms with the aide of acupuncture, herbs, and dietary recommendations.

FACIAL REJUVENATION AND NON-INVASIVE FACE LIFT

Burke Acupuncture Clinic utilizes a state of the art micro-current and colored light facial rejuvenation device designed by an acupuncturist.

All of our body functions are governed by electrical impulses, such as; muscle contraction and relaxation, glandular secretion, neural transmission, pain perception and many more.

The face directly contains 8 of the 14 meridians within the body and connects with the other 6 non-directly. Through stimulation of acupuncture points on the face, the facial muscles are restored, toned or relaxed depending on the condition, and the skin becomes supple and clear and in turn the entire body benefits.

In addition, the colored light also has a healing effect with the colors being customized to each persons individual needs. For example, someone with a red hue to their skin may need cooling colors (green/blue) to balance and clear heat.

As with everything offered at Burke Acupuncture Clinic, the products used are of the highest quality, organic and free of harsh chemicals which may damage or clog pores.
